“You can be a house with the Holy Spirit in the living room and a demon in the basement.”
Derek Prince (1915–2003) was one of the most influential Christian teachers on deliverance, spiritual warfare, and the authority of the believer in the 20th century. His approach was thoroughly biblical, practically pastoral, and deeply rooted in personal experience. He bridged the gap between systematic theology and charismatic ministry, and his teachings remain foundational in many deliverance circles.
He had a framework that Demons enter through “Doors”
Prince emphasized that demons gain access through specific gateways in a person’s life, including:
Personal sin (especially habitual), Occult involvement (even ancestral), Trauma or abuse, Curses (spoken, generational, self-imposed), Unforgiveness, False religion, or idolatry.
He certainly did not focus as much on Inner Healing as much he did deliverance, but he strongly emphasized the role of emotional wounds, curses, and traumas as open doors.
Prince rarely relied on spontaneous revelation or impressions. Instead, he taught deliverance systematically through Bible exposition. He provided lists of spirits, biblical keys, and word-based prayers.
He taught heavily on curses, was very well known for this. His basis was Deuteronomy 28. Prince said, “Curses are vehicles of supernatural power for evil.”
