Inner Healing Guide

This page is intended to be a walk-thru practical guide.

Inner healing is focused on being gentle and involving interaction with Holy Spirit as much as possible. This is a great way to do self-deliverance or inner healing for people in a calm setting with ample time.

What are called “strongholds” are effectively places of dwelling or access for unclean spirits. Think of it like a tent or a house that should not be in your Kingdom! These dwellings are made up of generally three things: sin committed against a person, sin committed by that person, and lies that have been believed. It is certainly possible that there are other things that can comprise of this dwelling (witchcraft rituals are often brought up if applicable to the person, although just treat them as sin committed, even if on behalf of an ancestor.) instead of listing them exhaustively it’s recommended that you begin to rely heavily on the guidance of Holy Spirit via listening prayer. May the prayer “Lord, show us what you want to do next” be the cry of your heart!

Identifying a stronghold

It’s recommended you start by praying The Canopy Prayer and the Binding Spirits Prayer. Have some blank paper for notes and a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit should be the focus throughout prayer time.

If one is present with Discernment of Spirits, begin to fill out the Inner Map. You can use that as a structure, breaking legal rights of each spirit methodically by praying thru the 3 areas below and letting Holy Spirit guide you through it.

To begin, the person seeking healing should read this out loud:

“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way.” (Psalm 139)

“Father, I ask in Jesus name that you would reveal any area in or around me that the enemy is encamped. I ask you would reveal all legal agreements and open doors. I ask you would reveal the structure of the enemy and the strategy the enemy has been using against me. I ask you Father for Wisdom and understanding in your calling and plans for me that you want me to know about. I yield and submit myself to you fully God, I recognize you as my authority and leader over every area of my body, over every part of my mind, and over every territory in my soul. Search me and heal me, Lord. In Jesus name.

Now proceed with listening prayer by sitting in silence until an area of sin or wrong belief comes up, then follow the instructions below. Often Holy Spirit will bring up memories or events. Use the combination of the 3 sections below to pray through that situation thoroughly. If you’re not sure what to do, or get stuck, just default back to: “Holy Spirit, show us what you want to address next”.

Sin committed against you

When the Holy Spirit reveals an area of wrongdoing against you, remember the command of Jesus that we are to walk in forgiveness of others continually. This is a situation that demands forgiveness, however painful it may be. Pray (or have the person you are leading repeat after you) something like the following:

“Father, I forgive ________ for committing _________ against me, in Jesus name. I bless them and ask you to lead them to wholeness and obedience in you.”

Worth noting here is that often it is relevant to deal with the sin of bitterness or similar issue when forgiving someone regarding a particular trauma. Sin is harmful by nature, and compassion and gentleness is necessary in this process. Take your time and surrender your various emotions to the Father in order to fully process and remove the trauma. Remember that because of the blood of Christ, we have access to forgiveness that removes the power of sin and therefore trauma.

Sin committed by you

When the Holy Spirit reveals an area of wrongdoing that you have committed, it’s time to repent!

“Father, I ask you to forgive me for committing the sin of ______ in Jesus name.”

“Father, I ask break all ties, contracts, and agreements with the spirit of ______ (name of sin or spirit) in Jesus name.”

“Spirit of _____, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to uproot from me, depart and never return!”

Have the person being prayed for “take a big breathe and breathe out”. This helps with expelling.

.

Wrong beliefs/Lies

This sounds unexciting but it’s huge, and a major component of inner healing. When the Holy Spirit reveals an area of thinking or emotion, write it down and spend some time asking Holy Spirit to more clearly explain the belief. Try to boil it down into a sentence. (Example: “I’ll always be alone”). As a helpful tip, usually lies are wrapped up in a specific feeling. The enemy uses the painful emotions of various experiences to validate the lie. (Example: “I’ll always be alone” feels true because of painful memories being alone or rejected…the feeling validates the wrong belief.)

Once you have summarized the lie on paper, pray (or have the person you are leading repeat after you) the following:

“Father, I ask you to forgive me in the name of Jesus for believing the lie of “______”(state the lie).”

“I receive your forgiveness, and I declare in the name of Jesus the truth, that I am “_______” (declare the opposite biblical truth, ask Holy Spirit for help).

(An example: the lie is usually opposite the truth. The lie of “I will always be alone” should be repented of and then replaced by declaring something like “God, you made me to be in a community of believers, a part of the body of Christ.”)
