Prayers of John G. Lake

“My God and Father, in Jesus’ name I come to Thee. Take me as I am. Make me what I ought to be in spirit, in soul, in body. Give me power to do right. If I have wronged any, to confess, to repent, to restore—no matter what it costs. Wash me in the blood of Jesus, that I may now become Thy child and manifest Thee in a perfect spirit, a holy mind, a sickless body, to the glory of God. Amen.”

This prayer was part of his sermon titled “The Power of Consecration to Principle,” delivered in Spokane, Washington, on March 16, 1916.

Lake described an angelic visitation where he was shown the Book of Acts and was urged to emphasize the importance of persistent prayer to his followers. The angel instructed him:

“Teach the people to pray. Prayer and prayer alone, much prayer, persistent prayer, is the door of entrance into the heart of God.”
